O Canada!
Read all about the most recent destinations on my work interrupted North American adventure...
Buffalo, NY
Wednesday April 11th
While technically still in the USA this was a necessary stopover on the way to the Canada. The flight from JFK landed me and Will in this "working man's town". Hoping to sample some of the Buffalo wings the city is famed for we headed off in the rain. After a minor soaking - success - delicious Buffalo wings enjoyed by all and a set of free drinks from the above quoted barman!
Niagara Falls, ON
Thursday April 12th
An early wake up call and brief bus ride later we had arrived in Canada. "Our home and native land! / Terre de nos aïeux" for the next few days at least (In both French and English, typifying the setup North of the border).
Niagara Falls on the Canadian side of the border was a very unusual place. The Falls themselves dominated the small town as you approached them. The American Falls, but more so the Horseshoe Falls were a spectacle to behold. Well worth a visit! As for the aforementioned town...you could maybe just go and play some poker in the casino if you enjoying losing CAD$40 when you still have 3 days of your holiday left...although there really is no need to stay for too long.
Toronto, ON
Friday April 13th - Sunday April 15th (or at least that was the plan!)
Arrival in Toronto was greeted by cries of "I don't think I've ever been this far north before" by Mr Tempest. Little did he, or I, know but Toronto's latitude is at least 10 degrees less than that of most places in the UK. Can't get that cold, especially with a nice warm breeze coming off Lake Ontario, right? Wrong! Having arrived in the Springtime we were greeted with some lovely positive Celsius temperatures so we were okay.
Keen to see as much of the city we missed breakfast on Friday morning and enjoyed a lie in til half past ten...!
We did manage over the course of 3 days to check out the dizzy heights of the CN Tower, watch the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Detroit Tigers 2-1 at the Rogers Center, visit the Toronto Island Park and drop in on the Hockey Hall of Fame.
